EUROPEAN WIND DAY, 15 June 2007

We kindly inform that for the first time on 15th of June European Wind Day is organized. Celebrations of the Day are part of a campaign with an aim to promote wind as a renewable and clean energy source. The Polish Wind Energy Association together with the European Wind Energy Association and other national Associations, wants to exploit this important momentum to present energy potential of wind and promote wider use of this clean energy source. The European Wind Day will be celebrated across whole Europe. Various events, happenings, contests, exhibitions and concerts in connection with wind energy, will be held in Brussels, Copenhagen, Athens, Madrid, Vienna and other European cities. Full list of events organized throughout Europe can be found at www.windday.eu .

Celebrations of the European Wind Day in Poland will be held in Szczecin. On this day Jasne Błonia Park will live on wind. It will be possible to admire a colorful stage design "catching the wind" by Jarosław Koziara - an artist preparing settings for such events like the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity Foundation or Voo Voo concerts. At the stage, artists from the Polish Theatre in Szczecin will present a special programme. The star of the evening will be Zakopower that will certainly carry away the public with "energetic music". The event will end with a fire-musical show prepared by Mr. Jarosław Koziara.

During the Celebrations of the European Wind Day in Szczecin also a "Kite festival" will take place. Everyone that on this particular day will come to Jasne Błonia Park with kites, will receive occasional t-shirts and will take part in a joint presentation of the kites at wind. From 4 pm till late evening, in a special tent it will possible to talk to experts in wind energy and get to know about benefits of exploiting wind for energy production.

Use of wind for energy production helps to counteract against climate changes and diversification of energy supply sources, it carries on many ecological benefits, social and economic ones, about which we would like to talk specially loud during this day. The aim of organizing Wind Day is first of all to increase public awareness on potential of wind in the extent of energy production, unlimited wind supplies and positive effects from wider use of energy from renewable energy sources.

During the March summit of the European Union in Brussels, leaders of Member States approved a solution that till 2020, 20% of energy produced in the EU will come from renewable energy sources. It was agreed that for particular countries, the aim will be diverse depending on initial situation and potential in the extent of energy production from renewable sources, as well as current level of its exploitation and structure of fuels' use in the power system. Poland, similarly to other member countries, faces the moment when it has to establish the national aim for 2020 according to the above mentioned guidelines which means that it has to establish potential in the extent of use of particular technologies for renewable energy production.
